Injury prevention advice from a runner, coach, and exercise physiologist.

The author of Running Strong & Injury-Free is Janet Hamilton, MA, RCEP, CSCS. Janet is an ACSM-Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist and has over 25 years of experience working with athletes of all ages and abilities and is an RRCA-certified distance running coach. She received her master's degree in Exercise Physiology in 1987, and is a Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCEP) through the American College of Sports Medicine. She has been a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association since 1993, and has been a member of the American Physical Therapy Association since 1978.

Running Strong & Injury-Free sheds some much needed light on the subject of injury prevention for athletes of all ages and abilities. Janet takes a common-sense approach to the subject, encouraging athletes to "train smarter, not harder". The numerous, detailed photographs depicting various stretching and strength training exercises are a big help. It is almost as if she is guiding you through the exercise in person. Her underlying philosophy is that an educated athlete is not only less likely to sustain an injury, but is better equipped to properly rehabilitate and return to training. Running Strong & Injury-Free goes a long way toward educating athletes about the underlying factors that may contribute to many common injuries. Her background in rehabilitation is evident as she takes a holistic approach to injury prevention, covering flexibility, strength, biomechanics and common training errors. This book is a must-read for any athlete who wants to train for the "long run".

Website Owner's Personal Endorsement: As an oft-injured runner, I have found Janet's book to be refreshingly clear and helpful. I have also personally attended a running-related seminar given by Janet in 2008. She understands biomechanics, exercise physiology, and most importantly, runners. Janet's book is a must for every runner's library.
